CHAPLAINCY
Discipling pro players in the ways of Jesus.
One of the proven ways we do that is by providing chaplaincy to professional clubs. With an increasing number of athletes struggling with mental health, and a growing number of internationals coming to U.S. based leagues for the first time on short term contracts, player care has become a priority for many clubs.
Our chaplaincy service is free of charge for the professional club; it provides environments for players to be cared for in difficult times, find wisdom for daily life, ask spiritual questions, develop as leaders, serve the community, and grow in their faith if they choose. Impact City FC is a member of the Pro Soccer Chaplains Association that serves teams across MLS, USL, & NWSL, as well as the USMNT.
Impact City FC then provides opportunities for these pro players to leverage their platform through serving in urban communities, in youth programs and on overseas missions experiences. We understand the importance of another trusted voice in the lives of young men to help them become leaders on and off the field. A trusted and gifted Chaplain has been that voice for many over the years.

Meet Jim Garvin, Chaplain of St. Louis City SC
Jim has been a Chaplain in St. Louis professional soccer since 2015. He has created deep roots and connections with the top of the soccer pyramid, and has also enlisted two other chaplains to help serve thereserve team and youth Academies. Jim meets regularly with a group of the players on the team, helps them navigate life, family, and soccer, and points them to the enduring wisdom, word, and love of God through it all.
Meet Joey Gorman, chaplain of the Charleston Battery
Joey Gorman originally worked as the kit man for the Charleston battery before he ended up serving them as their chaplain several years later. Currently Joey meets with about 5-6 players per week, sharing with them the love of Jesus, and giving them a listening ear as they process the ups and downs of professional soccer. Joey has been serving as the chaplain for 2 years now, and he got the privilege and joy to be part of the staff the brought the team to an eastern conference championship in 2023!
